What are the sleeping facilities?
The Diamante cavern sleeping platforms are in an open air cavern. For our overnight tours we include a sleeping bag, sheet, pillow, pillow case and sleeping pad.

What is the recommended minimum age?
Children are considered on a case-by-case basis, with emphasis placed on the estimation of the parent. Rappelling options are restricted by the ability of the child (or adult) to fit a harness. Generally, children less than 6 years old are too small.

What is the best month to go?
Water volume and vegetation are strongest in the rainy season, from April to the beginning of November. The dry season offers the driest, more relaxed time in the rivers and forest.

Day 1: Arrival to San Gerardo de Dota

Welcome to Costa Rica! Airport Meet and Greet with private transfer to the small mountain town of San Gerardo de Dota on the foothills of the Talamanca Mountain Range. We recommend arrival prior to 3 pm. Be welcomed with a cozy garden to table dinner using local indigenous and seasonal ingredients.

Day 2: San Gerardo de Dota

Join your naturalist guide for an early morning walk in the private San Gerardo de Dota reserve in search of the rare Resplendent Quetzel . After you return to the lodge for breakfast you will have the day to explore the onsite hiking trails of the hotels 480-hectare private reserve. In the evening enjoy a drink or a meal at the Los Robles bar next to the fireplace in the evening.

Day 3: Rainforest Waterfall Cave Camp

Step outside of the ordinary! The Diamante Falls is a hidden gem and one few visit during their time in Costa Rica. Your private transfer will take your south towards the Pacific Coast on your way to the Diamante Waterfall is located in the village of Las Tumbas. The area, called Las Tumbas, was given its name due to the abundance of hollowed stones, once used by the indigenous peoples for grinding flour. The Diamante River flows through the heart of the valley. Two kilometers below, surrounded by 1,200 feet of cascading waterfalls, you will find the “Casa de Piedra” (House of Stone) or as the locals call it “The Cave”. This amazing open air cavern is set behind twin waterfalls and features a full size kitchen and comfortable sleeping quarters.

In order to arrive at “Casa de Piedra” you will experience a 1.5-2-hour hike amongst the pristine cloud forest and rainforest. Our local guide knows this forest well and will share insider local insight the area, fruits and medicinal plants indigenous populations used. Exotic species like toucans, sloths and monkeys may join you along your trek. Upon arrival to the cave, guests will be greeted by our warm hospitality, great food and will have unique opportunities to connect to nature. The cave, tucked behind 85-foot twin waterfalls, is amongst untamed gardens of petrified palms, primary growth forest and an abundance of plants and wildlife.

After settling in and enjoying lunch you will have time to explore the waterfalls and then hike to lower Diamante falls/pool before returning to the cave for candlelit dinner

Day 4: Rainforest Waterfall Cave Camp

After breakfast start your rappel adventure down the magnificent Diamonte Waterfall, an impressive drop that pours over a cliff covered with thick greenery. Your guide will help guide you as you make your way down the waterfall into the rainforest canyon. Head back to camp for lunch and hike to upper pools to swim or do some cliff jumping.

Day 5: Manuel Antonio

After breakfast we will spend the morning hiking out of the spectacular rainforest canyon to the base camp where you will meet your private driver to continue onwards to the warm sun and sand of the Manuel Antonio Beach area. In the afternoon you can check into the hotel and enjoy the afternoon relaxing afternoon by the pool or catch sunset views from your hotel balcony.

Day 6: Manuel Antonio

Cruise the Coastline! The extensive coastlines of Costa Rica make it one of the world’s premier ecotourism destinations. Explore the waters off Manuel Antonio aboard the catamaran that slices through the surf and offers a variety of food and snack options, a selection of local drinks, and snorkeling in one of the calm bays.. Take in the ocean air and watch out for dolphins, turtles, whales, and breathtaking coastal views.

Day 7: Departure
